How to prepare your computer for repair

Back up if the computer works

Copy important files to a reliable storage device and check that they open. An unverified backup may not help when you need it.

Write down the symptoms

Describe when the fault appears and whether it began after a drop, update or power interruption. Keep the error text without sharing private information.

Protect your accounts

Do not send passwords through the form. Ask whether diagnostics require system access and how to provide limited access. Sign out of personal accounts where possible.

Define the scope

Clarify whether you approve diagnosis only or a specific repair. Do not authorize reinstallation without understanding the effect on programs and data.
